From bikers to bombers and everything in between, there’s nothing quite like a leather jacket. Rugged to refined, they add a bit of interest to any ensemble. But how do you know what’s right for you? Season and silhouette. The options are plentiful: fit, long sleeves, ribbed cuffs, flapped pockets, zippers (and more zippers) or brass button clasps. What never changes is the impression that a quality leather jacket makes. With winter slated to make an inevitable appearance each year (though it’s been unseasonably pleasant going into the holiday), I think of one word: shearling. This fully-lined option from Timberland is a great example of form meeting function, combining the lived-in look of distressed lamb leather with ample storage and a toasty interior.
Some of my other favorites include options for all seasons (nothing that a bit of layering can’t fix) including Oak Rebel, L.L. Bean and Givenchy. After all, style is nothing if it’s not versatile. And in a range of hides and designs, you can go from work day to weekend with just a swipe of the closet rack.
