For those of you who don’t know, I shaved my beard (and chopped off my hair). For those who didn’t see, it’s probably because I was hiding out. I think there were some real attachment issues there. The decision to do it was for health reasons more than aesthetic ones and when I realized how much more face I had to take care of, I got in touch with Mavericks, a new skin care line that takes an intelligent approach to men’s grooming.
Knowing that my beard would grow back eventually, I wanted to lay a foundation that replenishes moisture and protects my skin from the environment before it got covered in scruff. I’ve tested the products for the last three weeks and wanted to share a review of my experience. I really value a simple routine and if I could do this in just a few minutes a day and see results, I’d be really happy.
First, the packaging. I’m a bit of nerd when it comes to presentation, mostly to help my clients, but I always value a complete shopping experience and Mavericks delivers at face value (no pun intended).
Second, the product. The bottles are all FAA size regulated so you can travel with them with no issue–big deal. The formulations have retinol, hyaluronic acid, and other key ingredients sans the parabens and synthetic fragrances The regimen itself, called the Face Kit, is a refreshingly simple concept. Instead of washes and scrubs and masks, the focus is more toward the night. You start your day with a quick rinse and apply PROTECT, a broad spectrum SPF moisturizer to seal against UV damage–primarily responsible for aging the skin.
Finally, the results. It’s been really refreshing. Along with some diet changes at home (leaning vegan thanks to my awesome wife and Trader Joe’s) and a commitment to drink more water, my skin has never looked and felt better. I’ve dealt with oily skin and I can say the added moisture has reduced the shine throughout the day. If you travel often and you’re serious about quality skin care, then you should definitely give the Mavericks Face Kit a shot. I’ll update you guys in a few months to see how it fairs in colder weather.
