You know who you are. Someone asks for your input and you go on to restructure, reformat, and eventually reassign their idea…to yourself. You go from companion to captain, a given inch becomes a commandeered mile until the road is solely yours to claim. A call for counsel slowly morphs into a merger which you now preside over. A hostile takeover with a smile.
Respect the Request
When someone invites you to engage with them intellectually, professionally, socially, it is on the basis of the terms present at its inception. Their terms, irrespective of your determination.
Play your role and you’ll be surprised by what you learn: about yourself, the other person(s), and the creative process as a whole.
I’m speaking from experience. (Thank you, Stephen.)
