Finding Your Fit: How Should Men Shop for Pants?

The men’s pant industry, particularly in denim, has changed tremendously in the last few years. With more cuts, fits and fabrics than ever,  we know the struggle of plunging through the racks only to end up unhappy and empty handed. So we asked an expert about what it takes to shop for pants with less hassle and to find the style that suits you. Meet Simon Khasani.
Unlike women, I believe men have a more consistent approach when it comes to fashion. They may change their tech devices often but when they are about to purchase clothes, they like to rely on what already works for them. In particular, men hardly change the style of their pants. After studying our worldwide consumer habits, as the number one pant manufacture in Germany, MAC has noted that men tend to buy a new pant when they have to get rid of the old pairs. And when they do buy a new pair, they go for the same style and fit that they previously owned.

They may change their tech devices often but when they are about to purchase clothes, they like to rely on what already works for them.

Certainty is key in the male buyer’s psychological process. Men are loyal and repetitive. They buy what they know. One of the reasons of this resistance to change is that, as we noted in our latest company’s consumer report, men don’t like to try on clothes, especially pants. Trying a blazer is much less stressful!

Another criteria men base their shopping habits on is comfort. Whatever makes their life easier always represents a big plus. In the MAC world our top sellers are the Jog ‘n Jeans, a mix of jeans and a sweat pant, and the Flexx, that uses up to 80% of elastane.

As to men’s favorite silhouette, the slim fit has played a big role in every men’s wardrobe for the last 10 years. Our customers tend to choose more and more slimmer styles, especially since celebrities and athletes have been transitioning from the regular fits to slimmer ones.

How can men choose the right style in such a saturated market? My suggestion is to always pick the best fit for your body type and consider the total look of what you are wearing.
